When a Phoenix homeowner called us about their dated carpet, the 48th Construction team outlined a seamless plan: remove the old flooring, prepare the slab properly and install a durable vinyl plank that would elevate the space without creating a mess. We started by removing the carpet using a dust‑free demolition process; our crew used advanced vacuum‑powered equipment that captures dust at the source, dramatically reducing airborne debris and cleanup time. This kept the home’s air clean and made the worksite safer for both the occupants and our team.

With the carpet gone, we focused on the subfloor. Years of adhesives and high/low spots could cause hollow‑sounding planks if not addressed, so our team scraped and ground away glue and residue, smoothing high spots and lightly grinding low areas to open the pores in the concrete. A thoroughly clean, even surface is crucial for self‑levelling compounds to bond properly. Once the slab was free of dust, we applied a quality primer (No sponsors yet!). Primer creates a strong bond between the self‑leveling underlayment and the concrete, controls moisture and enhances durability; skipping this step can lead to poor adhesion, moisture issues and uneven surfaces.

Next, we mixed and poured a self‑levelling compound to correct minor undulations in the slab, creating a smooth, flat plane. After curing for 24 hours, the floor was ready for the final touch: luxury vinyl planks. We installed the planks in the homeowner’s chosen pattern, taking care to stagger seams and ensure tight joints for a professional finish. The homeowner was thrilled not just with the look but also with the fact that the entire process—from dustless demolition to the final plank—was executed with minimal disruption and long‑term performance in mind.
